Dear Grandchildren,

Many of you have seen the toy cat we have at our house. It wears a dress and sits on our couch just for fun. Many of you have played with it. One day, Grandpa sat down on the couch to talk to me, and there were that cat's two bug-eyes looking over his shoulder. I said, "Grandpa, hold still. That is so cool! Let me take a picture. Your grandkids will love to see that!" He grumbled a little, but he sat still while I took their picture. Later one of the grandchildren thought that the bright spot was an angel coming down. Maybe it was!

Have you been able to go out at night and see the Man in the Moon? I think I saw him this morning, but it was hard to tell. I got up really early and went outside. The sun wasn't up yet, but the moon was all shiny and silver, and was so bright, that I could see the tree's shadows. I could even see my shadow. Have you ever seen your own shadow? It is a funny thing, isn't it? Sometimes it is long, and sometimes we can hardly see it at all. It seems as if its feet are glued to our feet. Go outside and see if you can find your shadow. Sometimes it is in front of you and sometimes behind you. Look hard! Here is part of an old poem about a shadow. It was written long ago by Robert Louis Stevenson who wrote many famous stories. Your parents can look it up and read the rest of it to you.

We have been learning about plants and animals. Plants and animals have shadows too. Print out the page of plants and their shadows. The shadows are in the wrong place, so draw a line from the plant to the right shadow. The shadow will look just like the plant.

Let's talk more about good manners. What are some good manners when we are eating? We take small bites and chew with our mouths closed. We don't talk when we have food in our mouths and we don't burp when we are eating. If our tummies burp when we don't want them to, we should say, "Excuse me." Listen to this funny thing, "Pardon me for being rude. It was not me, it was my food!" Pardon me, means the same as excuse me. Here is a poem about some strange things called Goops, and how they don't have good manners when they eat. Here's a new one that you probably already do. When you want more food, say, "Please pass the beans. Thank you." We don't say, "Hey! Gimme me the beans.". That would be rude. Rude means we don't have good manners.

I wonder what a Goop looks like? Can you draw a strange, funny thing that is eating and making a mess and chewing with its mouth open?

This is a special day, because we are going to finish our numbers today. Last time we did nine. What number will we do today? Yes, we will do ten. Ten is easy, because it is made of numbers you already know how to make. "Make a one and a zero then, Ten, ten, ten!" Now you can do ten counters in the ten cup. You can do 11 if your mom wants to put an 11 in the last cup. You can do your counting box anytime you want.

What color of ice cream do you think you will do today? One of Grandma's favorite kinds of ice cream is chocolate. What color is chocolate? That's what color we are doing today. We are going to do "I like brown ice cream". Brown is made from mixing all the other colors together. Some dogs, cows, and horses are brown. Do you have brown shoes? Do you have brown eyes or brown hair? Your brown crayon looks like it was made of chocolate, doesn't it? Don't eat your chocolate crayon! That would be silly, wouldn't it?

Here are the last two page for our Round Book. One says, "Round is a puppy curled up on a rug." When puppies and kitties go to sleep, they curl up into a round ball. Can you pretend you are a puppy or a kitty sleeping all curled up round? The last page says, "Round are the spots on a wee ladybug." The word wee, means very little. You know that ladybugs are red with black spots. Remember the picture we saw of the ladybug before. Tomorrow we will finish our Round Books by make a front and a back cover. We are so busy! We work and work and work!

Keep putting your clothes and your kissing shoes away. You don't want to be messy. Messy people are also called slobs. That is an ugly word, and we don't want to be slobs
