Jerry Chamberlain

Jerry Chamberlain is the son of Wesley Chamberlain and Frances Jane Cundiff and the younger brother of Rhoda Elizabeth Chamberlain. The last time Rhoda Chamberlain McCain saw her younger brother Jerry was in Jensen, Utah. Jerry had stayed with Rhoda and her family while he was on his way to California.

The last time she heard anything about him was in a letter written by her cousin, Sam Ray, in California who told her that Jerry was staying with him. The 1910 US Federal Census shows Sam Ray and his four sons living in Rhea county Tennessee. The 1920 US Federal Census shows them in Tulare county California. The 1920 census also lists Jerry as living with Edwin Bales, so Sam's letter to Rhoda would have been written after 1910 and before 1920.

As can be seen from the images below Jerry lived in Tulare and Fresno counties. Both Tulare and Fresno counties are east of Los Angeles and about midpoint north and south between San Francisco and Los Angeles Each census he appears in shows him as a single man. He was registered to vote in at least four elections from 1910 to 1926.

On 12 September 1918 he registered for the military draft in Fresno, Fresno, California. There he gave his birthdate as 6 May 1874. However the California Death Index give it as 6 May 1873. The box below shows the data in the death index.

The 1910 Census for Tulare county California. This is the same county Sam Ray lived in. However when the census was taken Jerry was a boarder with Edwin Bales. He is listed as a white male, age 35 and single.

The 1920 Census for Tulare county California. Here he is a boarder with J. W. Foster and is listed as a white male age 40 and single. Obviously since he was born in 1873 or 1874 his age would have been in 1920.

The 1930 Census for Fresno county California. Here he is listed as a family head living in a rented home, age 55 and single.
